This month's spotlight is Berks County
Senior Citizens Council. |
 |

The
Berks County Senior Citizens Council exists to serve seniors and their
families. Put simply, if seniors need it, the Council is here to make sure
they get it. Whether delivering services directly, partnering with other
organizations or referring seniors to outside programs, the Council
focuses the resources of our community to meet the needs of seniors and
guarantees that seniors have easy access to the information, programs and
assistance they need.
Aging in an increasingly complex and fast-paced society is not easy.
Seniors and their families benefit significantly from a single
organization dedicated to helping them meet all the challenges they face.
The Berks County Senior Citizens Council is that organization.
The Council serves the financial, social and health needs of seniors. It
helps seniors file their income taxes, access a myriad of government
benefit programs, understand their insurance options and avoid consumer
scams. Equally important, the Council brings seniors together. Social and
educational programs keep seniors vibrant and engaged in our community.
Seniors regularly tell Council staff that their senior center is “my
therapy,” “the reason I get up every morning,” and “my second home.”
Throughout Berks County the Council’s nine senior centers are a safe and
comforting focal point in the lives of seniors.
The Council’s impact extends well beyond the walls of its nine senior
centers. Council staff and volunteers go directly into the homes of
seniors needing help. They partner with other organizations to deliver
informative and engaging services seniors need. They deliver over 800 hot
meals to seniors every day. They support and visit hundreds of senior
clubs throughout Berks County.
When seniors are hungry, the Council feeds them.
When they are confused, the Council educates them.
When they are lonely, the Council entertains them.
When they are overwhelmed, the Council helps them
